The driver who died when his semitrailer truck rolled over and was hit by another big rig on a snowy western Wisconsin interstate was identified Friday as an east-central Minnesotan driving for an Eagan company.

John D. Philippi, 45, of Stacy, was killed Thursday morning a few miles west of Menomonie in the wreck shortly before 1 a.m. on eastbound I-94, according to the State Patrol.

Philippi was driving for Logistics Services Inc., the patrol added.

Highway conditions were slippery from the heavy snow that was falling, leading to his semi rolling over and being struck by the second truck, the patrol said. The east side of the highway was closed for about 6 hours as debris was cleared and investigators did their work.

The other driver, Robert E. Denton, 48, of Mattoon, Ill., was treated at a nearby hospital for noncritical injuries.
