A nursing home worker in Ely, Minn., was found to have neglected a resident who fell and broke two bones, according to a report by the Minnesota Office of Health Facility Complaints made public this week.
The employee of Boundary Waters Care Center sat the resident in a recliner, failed to administer oxygen, turned off the light and closed the door to the resident’s room, leaving her call button out of reach.
The resident, who needs assistance to move around, fell, breaking a bone in her leg and one in her arm. A metal rod was used to repair her femur.
The worker, who was terminated, had been properly trained and warned twice before about similar issues. The state said the facility was not responsible for the neglect.
