It’s true at Rustica, where $2.50 buys a few thick, fresh-cut slices straight off the bread board — choose from four or five gorgeous, ever-changing loaves —plus jam and sweet, creamy butter. The skilled baristas work the espresso machine with a surgeon’s dexterity.

Replace the Egg McMuffin with one of the a.m. sandwiches at Surdyk’s Cheese Shop. Highlights include the “Green Eggs and Ham,” a mix of scrambled eggs with spinach, Minnesota farmstead ham and Swiss on a focaccia roll ($4.65), and an open-face beauty made with a slice of sesame semolina topped with avocado and a sunny-side-up fried egg ($3.99).
