A man and woman were found dead in a home in the northern Minnesota town of Bagley, and neighbors say the man killed his mother and then himself.

Neighbors identified the dead as Darlene Gerbracht, 64, and Jack Gerbracht, 41. They were found dead about 6 p.m. Monday at the mother's home on the 400 block of Getchell Avenue. Police said Wednesday that the two had been shot.

The son, who lived down the same street with his wife, killed his mother and then himself, the neighbors said. Darlene Gerbracht lived alone. Her husband died a few years ago.

Police have yet to confirm the identities of the two or the circumstances surrounding their deaths. The medical examiner's office in nearby Grand Forks, N.D., confirmed that it is handling the Gerbrachts' autopsies.

Police Chief Larry Peterson said that authorities are not looking for any suspects. A 911 call bought police to the home, he said.

The elder Gerbracht recently retired as court administrator for Clearwater and Hubbard counties, a court official said.

Court administrators oversee numerous crucial aspects of a court's operations, including management of juries, finances, fine collections and other record-keeping responsibilities. They also are in charge of security for court records and exhibits.

Lila Ricke, who lives next door to Darlene Gerbracht, described her neighbor as "a lovely lady" who spoke of her son having psychological problems and was "disconnected from the family" for the past several years.

Ricke said she didn't hear anything unusual Monday night but noticed there was trouble when police, a sheriff's patrol car and an ambulance showed up and circled the property in crime scene tape.

"They were there until after midnight," she said. "They were here this morning and asked if I heard anything, and I said, 'No.' "
