Joe Mauer walked twice, struck out twice and tapped back to the mound on Sunday against the White Sox, ending his 10-game hitting streak. … Opponents have scored first against the Twins in 12 of 15 games. Somehow, the Twins are 7-5 in those games. … Josh Willingham has at least one RBI in four consecutive games. Willingham broke in with the Marlins in 2004 as both an outfielder and a catcher, but he hasn’t caught since 2006. … The Twins will face the Marlins for the first time since June 22-24, 2007, when the Twins won two of three games in South Florida.
Nolasco still is looking for his first victory of the season, the deepest he has gone into a season as a starter without winning. He is 6-10 with a 5.43 ERA in interleague play. … Two key players for the Marlins are outfielder Giancarlo Stanton and closer Steve Cishek. Stanton’s 37 home runs last season were second to Ryan Braun in the National League but he has yet to hit a homer this season. Cishek, like Stanton, was a member of Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. … Besides manager Mike Redmond, former Twins on the Miami roster include righthanders Jon Rauch and Kevin Slowey.
