The Minnesota Department of Transportation will hold an open house Wednesday to present plans for rebuilding the Park and Portland Avenue bridges over I-94.

Representatives will be on hand to answer questions from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1901 Portland Avenue S.

When work begins in early May, motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians who use the bridges will have to find alternate routes in and out of downtown Minneapolis until they reopen in August. Information on detours will be available at the open house.

The $5 million project, which includes reconstruction of sidewalks and both bridges, also will affect traffic on I-94 and I-35W. Partial lane and full closures of those interstates will be necessary in early May to prepare for the bridge work.
