Icy road conditions appear to be a factor in a highway crash shortly before sunrise Monday in western Wisconsin that left a St. Paul man dead and two other Twin Citians injured, authorities said.

The collision occurred about 5:40 a.m. on Hwy. A in Richmond Township, according to the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office.

Killed in the wreck was Yeng Yang, 61, the Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the Sheriff’s Office:

Yang lost control of his northbound car on a curve and slid into the path of a southbound car. Both vehicles ended up in a ditch but still partly in the southbound lane.

Yang was dead at the scene. Two people in the other car, Kelly Wilcox, 31, of Maplewood, and Allen Matheus, 35, of St. Paul, were taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Their conditions were not immediately known.

“Road conditions appear to be a factor in the crash,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “The road was icy in spots when sheriff’s deputies arrived [at the scene].”

All three people were wearing their seat belts, the Sheriff’s Office added.
