TWINS UPDATE
They have dominated the Royals for almost a decade; the last time they lost the season series to Kansas City was 2003. The Twins, who went 11-7 against the Royals last year, are 104-61 in the past nine years. ... Except for Tropicana Field, Kauffman Stadium is Joe Mauer's favorite place to hit — he's a lifetime .362 hitter there, with a .457 on-base percentage. ... Justin Morneau has hit 14 home runs there, more than any park except the Metrodome.
ROYALS UPDATE
Monday is the Royals' home opener, and they'll be celebrating the 40th anniversary of their home park, which opened as Royals Stadium in 1973. ... They opened the season by dropping two out of three road games against the White Sox but winning two of three from the Phillies. ... They entered Sunday having allowed only 15 runs this season, fewest in the majors. ... They hit only one home run in their first five games, fewest in the American League. ... Ervin Santana, acquired from the Angels in a trade last October, is 4-3 with a 4.31 ERA in 10 starts against the Twins. Jeremy Guthrie is 4-2 vs. Minnesota, and Wade Davis is 2-0.
