De Vries (stiff forearm) will throw in the bullpen Friday to determine if he can make his sceduled start Sunday. … Hendriks made the team out of spring training last year and was supposed to start during the opening series in Baltimore but got food poisioning while in Baltimore and had to be scratched. "No spinach this time," he said. … Baltimore swept that series and went on to become the surprise team of 2013. "We take credit for them getting off to a good start," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire joked. "We gave them confidence.''… The Twins have not won a road opener since 2009.

ORIOLES UPDATE

Arrieta is starting the Orioles' home opener. He also started their home opener a year ago when he tossed seven shutout innings at the Twins to lead Baltimore to victory. … Chris Tillman is on the disabled list because a left abdominal strain but will be activated in time to make his scheduled start. … The Orioles roster includes former Twins shortstop J.J. Hardy and infielder Alexi Casilla. Danny Valencia and Lew Ford were also in camp, but we sent to the minors. … Hardy leads all shortstops with 52 home runs since the start of the 2011 season.
