Reform in state taxation will be discussed at a River Valley Action forum on Thursday in Woodbury.

Speakers will explore the history of Minnesota taxation, including budgeting gimmicks, tax loopholes and the need for sufficient revenue to pay for programs and services.

They are Myron Frans, Minnesota commissioner of revenue; Jeff Van Wychen from Minnesota 2020, and Sean Kershaw, executive director of the Citizens League. After the presentations, Dane Smith of Growth and Justice will moderate a discussion with the presenters and take questions from the audience.

Attendees will discuss reforms that stop cycles of recurring deficits and establish sound state budgets.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Woodbury-Peaceful Grove United Methodist Church, 7465 Steepleview Road.
