Alexandra Pelosi is developing into a rather formidable director as her latest, “Fall to Grace” (7 p.m., HBO), is also one of her best. The daughter of Nancy Pelosi continues her on-screen quest to figure out politics and politicians with this candid portrayal of former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey, who stepped down after revealing that he’s gay.
It’s almost inevitable that a long-running sitcom will eventually try to do a musical episode, and while this can often be cause for alarm, I’m fairly certain the gang at “Raising Hope” (8 p.m., KMSP, Ch. 9) will deliver with three original songs, including “You’re Going to Rock the Torah.”
The American storyteller
Director Martin Ritt told American stories about as well as anybody, which is why a marathon of his films is always worth our attention. Highlights this evening include the underdog classic “Norma Rae” (8:30 p.m., TCM), the emotionally wrenching “Sounder” (10:30 p.m.) and “The Front” (12:30 a.m.), a powerful comedy about blacklisting that features Woody Allen’s best acting performance.
