One man was shot and wounded Friday night before a police standoff of more than five hours in Minneapolis' Cedar-Riverside neighborhood ended with the suspect taking his own life.

About 10:30 p.m., officers were called to the Riverside Plaza apartments at 1515 S. 4th St. on a report of shots being fired, police said Saturday.

When police arrived, they found a man who had been shot. He was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center with noncritical injuries.

Police learned that the shooting suspect had fled to an apartment in the building, where he took a woman hostage. Police were able to successfully negotiate the woman's release.

However, when a robot was deployed to enter the apartment, it found the man unresponsive. It was determined that he was dead, possibly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The man's identity has yet to be released.
