Everyone can sample the life of a crime-fighter on April 26 at the Hennepin County Sheriff's department open house.

The event is free and takes place rain or shine, although lousy weather could affect demonstrations, especially those involving a helicopter. There will be a large indoor area for exhibits.

Many of the department's tools and techniques will be on display so citizens can get a close look. The event features K-9 demonstrations with the agency's highly skilled dogs. Mounted patrol horses will be on the scene.

The sheriff's dive team will demonstrate underwater techniques. Crime scene investigators will be on hand with displays.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. at the Sheriff's Enforcement Services Division, 9401 83rd Av. N. in Brooklyn Park. Everyone is invited. Free hot dogs, chips, cookies and drinks will be served while they last. Parents and children are encouraged to attend.
