With Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes already booked to play the Soundset festival four days earlier, the last week of May will be quite a bonanza for classic hip-hop fans in the Twin Cities. Target Center just announced it will host a May 30 date on the Kings of the Mic Tour with LL Cool J, Public Enemy and De La Soul. Tickets go on sale Saturday at noon for $79.50 $59.50 and $49.50 through the arena box office and AXS.com.

Labelmates on Rick Rubin’s pioneering Def Jam Records in the ‘80s, LL and PE reunited on stage last week at the South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas, a show that streamed live via -- where else? – the Doritos Facebook page. They also paired up for a hard-rocking montage of classic rap tunes at the end of February’s Grammy Awards telecast, for which LL (also the show’s host) earned less-than-glowing marks. Fans raved about the Public Enemy show at First Avenue in December, though. LL's new album, "Authentic," lands April 30, and PE issued not one but two records last year.

Best known for the 1988 hit “Me Myself & I” – and don’t forget their part in the 2006 Gorillaz collaboration “Feel Good Inc.” -- P.E.’s fellow Long Island, N.Y., crew De La Soul has also put on some memorable First Ave gigs in recent years, as well as a strong set at Soundset 2011. The three acts will kick off their tour a week before the Minneapolis date in Tucson, Ariz.
