It was a steamy three-hour meeting last night near Garrison, where DNR officials met with local Lake Mille Lacs business owners, guides and residents to talk about possible regulations needed to reduce the walleye harvest on the lake.
See my story elsewhere on this page for details.
“This is probably the most important lake in the state,’’ DNR fisheries chief Dirk Peterson told the group of 60 that jammed into the Hazleton Town Hall. “We want it to remain THE walleye lake in Minnesota.’’
But members of the Mille Lacs Fishery Input Group clearly were frustrated with the situation they face: Telling customers there likely will be a 2-inch harvest slot for walleyes, and two-fish bag limit to begin the season.
Meanwhile, the DNR announced today that it will take additional comments on its Mille Lacs fishing regulation proposals by email at email@example.com.
