Rotary seeks host families for students
The Edina Rotary Club is looking for six families to open their homes to two international students for three to four months over the course of the 2013-14 school year.
The students, who are part of the North Star Youth Exchange, go through orientation and will take part in Rotary Club events through the year.

Art center plans teen art show
The Edina Art Center is sponsoring a juried teen art show through March 27.
The opening reception is from 5-8 p.m. Thursday.

Chamber hosts 5K fun run
The Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce is hosting a 5K run March 16.
The 2013 Jake O'Connor's Luck o' the Lake 5K Fun Run will take place at 9 a.m. starting at the Excelsior Brewery. The event, which will be a fundraiser for the chamber, costs $25 to enter or $35 after March 14. The fee will include a T-shirt, race bag and complimentary beverage.

St. David's Center hosts gala event
St. David's Center for Child and Family Development will host its 2013 Make Them Shine Gala on March 9 at International Market Square.
The 24th annual event raises money for early intervention services for Twin Cities children and their families.
Starting at 5 p.m., the VIP sponsor reception includes live music and a wine tasting. The gala begins at 6 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction, cash bar, dinner and a live auction.
Tickets are $150; a table sponsorship for 10 costs $1,750 and includes two tickets to the VIP sponsor reception. Reservations and donations can be made at www.stdavidscenter.org/gala and tickets must be reserved by Friday.

Meetings held on Navarre's future
The city of Orono will hold a series of meetings this winter and spring to gather ideas from residents and businesses regarding planning for Navarre's future.
One meeting already has been held this month. The next will take place April 8 and June 10 at the Orono City Council chambers, 2780 Kelley Parkway.

Free health screenings offered
The city of Plymouth will host free health screenings, massages, health information sessions and fitness samplers next month.
Plymouth's Healthy ÂLiving Fair will take place from 1-4 p.m. March 10 at the Plymouth Creek Activity Center, 14800 34th Av. N. The fair, hosted by the city of Plymouth and Abbott ÂNorthwestern-WestHealth, is open to the public. More than 30 medical, health, fitness and wellness industry exhibitors will be on hand to answer questions.

Opportunity Partners honors four firms
Opportunity Partners is honoring four companies Wednesday for their work in employing people with disabilities.
The business recognition luncheon, "Celebrate Opportunity," will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Marriott West Minneapolis. More than 400 business leaders will attend the event emceed by WCCO-TV's Frank Vascellaro, with a keynote presentation by Chris Wright, president of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The nonprofit will recognize DecoPac, Engineered Products Co., Kraus-Anderson Construction Co. and Walgreens for building teams that include employees with disabilities. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at www.celebrateopportunity2012.eventbrite.com.
Empty Bowls event will help the hungry
St. Louis Park Emergency Program, better known as STEP, is holding its 13th annual Empty Bowls event on March 7 at the St. Louis Park Recreation Center. All money raised by Empty Bowls goes to meeting the needs of hungry people in the community.
For a donation, participants get a meal of soup and bread and may take home a bowl handmade by local artists, students or residents. Those who do not have time to sit down for a meal can participate by getting soup to go.

Senior program has two classes on tap
Register now for upcoming senior program classes on "Sudoku Tips and Tricks for Beginners" and "How to Shop, Cook and Have Fun Doing It!"
The sudoku class is scheduled for 1:30-3 p.m. Friday at Lenox Community Center, 6715 Minnetonka Blvd. Instructor Andrea Ruby will help participants develop their skills by learning tips and tricks.
"How to Shop, Cook and Have Fun Doing It!" will be held March 14 from 10:15 a.m.-1 p.m. at the St. Louis Park Byerly's. The session will include a store tour and a cooking class.

Jazz concert at MacPhail Center
The MacPhail Center for Music will sponsor a jazz performance featuring Jazz trumpeter Phil Grenadier and the Dakota Combo of Adam Linz and J.T. Bates.
