Alternative bus routes are being set up for the hardest hit areas, and parents are being contacted -- often through cell phone numbers - or at the command post set up at Oneka Elementary School -- to be told of the arrangements. Brott said.
School volunteers will staff special phone lines to offer assistance for residents affected by the tornado. Those lines will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, she said, and volunteers will identify residents’ needs and guide them in finding help, she said.
An existing school-based program for child care, from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. will be opened to affected families who currently don’t use the program, Brott said. That center may be kept open longer, depending on the need and on the number of volunteers available, she added.
“We know that we’re going to have an outpouring from the community and staff,” Brott said.
