COLUMBUS, OHIO - Sophomore guard Rachel Banham's jumper with under a second left enabled the Gophers to edge Ohio State 57-56 in a Big Ten women's basketball game Thursday at Value City Arena.
Raven Ferguson's two three-pointers in the final 18 seconds gave the Buckeyes (14-12, 4-9) a one-point lead with 13 seconds to play. But Banham's buzzer-beater gave the Gophers (16-11, 5-8) only their second victory ever at Columbus and their first season sweep of the Buckeyes.
They beat Ohio State 59-56 on the road the first time on Jan. 15, 2009.
Banham had 17 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Junior forward Micaella Riche also had 17 points, plus five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Minnesota shot 42.2 percent, the Buckeyes 31.0. Tayler Hill, a former Minneapolis South star, led Ohio State with 25 points but was only 5-for-17 shooting.
With the score tied 35-35 in the second half, the Gophers went on a 8-0 run on Banham's two free throws and Riche's two three-point plays in a row. But the Gophers could not build on that 43-35 lead with just under 12 minutes to play.
