I've been following the gun debate the Star Tribune has been carrying on its opinion pages with some interest. Thank you for persevering with this issue. I hope it continues a little longer, because someone needs to explain why there is so much fascination with guns.

Is it the feel of a gun, the weight or the smell? Or maybe it isn't an objective characteristic at all. Is it something to do with operating the gun or the perceived power of the gun?

Perhaps the gun wielder imagines the power of the gun is transferred, transforming the holder into something wonderful. Or maybe it's the noise.

As one not so enchanted, I find the fascination with guns disturbing. It is just begging for analysis.
