ST. PAUL, Minn. - A Minnesota police officer killed in the line of duty could soon be remembered with a stretch of highway named in his honor.

A state House committee heard a bill to designate an 11-mile stretch of Highway 23 in central Minnesota the "Officer Tom Decker Memorial Highway."

Signs would be put along the part of the highway to honor the Decker, the Cold Spring police officer gunned down while responding to a call in November. The investigation into the shooting has yet to conclude.

Phil Jones, Cold Spring's chief of police, says it would be a way to memorialize an officer who gave his life.

In Congress, Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann is pushing a bill to name a post office after Decker.
