President Obama will visit Minneapolis on Monday, making the first on-the-road pitch for his plan to fight gun violence.He is expected to land Monday morning and head to the Minneapolis Police Department's Special Operations Center in north Minneapolis. The meeting spot, at 4115 Dupont Av. N., is just four blocks south of where 5-year-old Nizzel George was shot to death last summer in his home in a gang dispute. Last year, police seized an average of one gun every day in the Fourth Precinct.

In a statement, the White House praised Minneapolis for taking "important steps to reduce gun violence and foster a conversation in the community about what further action is needed."

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman and Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek will be among those attending.
