Why do we live here? The thousands of ice luminaries lighting the path on Lake of the Isles for Saturday’s Luminary Loppet  might give you insight on that question.

The evening cross-country ski jaunt is one of numerous events offered for winter lovers of all ages during the annual City of Lakes Loppet, which continues Sunday in Minneapolis.

Earlier Saturday the Penn Ice-Cycle Loppet took place on the lagoon between Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles.

The two-day gala is called “the urban cross-country ski festival” for winter outdoors enthusiasts of all ages.
