ANKARA, Turkey - Turkey's prime minister is replacing his controversial interior minister and three other Cabinet officials in a government shake-up that comes a year ahead of local elections.
A statement from Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's office Thursday said the ministers of tourism, education and health were being replaced.
In addition, Interior Minister Idris Naim Sahin is being replaced by Muammer Guler, a former governor of Istanbul.
Sahin was accused of being insensitive over his comments regarding a botched military air raid that killed 34 smugglers mistaken for Kurdish rebels.
He called the raid an "experience" for Turkish security forces and said the victims would have been put on trial for smuggling.
