ATLANTA - The National Weather Service says snow is falling in central Mississippi as the Southeast braces for the possibility of accumulating snow after days of soaking rains.
Meteorologist Alan Campbell in Jackson says the heaviest snow activity Thursday in Mississippi is along the Interstate 55 corridor.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for much of north Alabama and central Mississippi. Forecasters say parts of both states could get from 1 inch to 2 inches of snow. Snow in Alabama could continue possibly into Friday.
Some areas of Alabama have received as much as 6 inches of rain since Sunday.
Forecasters also say north Georgia, including areas of metro Atlanta, could get ice and snow and issued a winter storm warning for 12 counties there.
