Carrie on

The most startling revelation in "The Carrie Diaries" (7 p.m., WUCW, Ch. 23), a prequel to "Sex and the City," is that a teenage Carrie Bradshaw appeared to have friends of color. That's refreshing. What's not is the clunky dialogue and laughable belief that we actually care how our heroine learned how to shop.

Class is in session

In the latest edition of "Master Class -- The Art of Collaboration" (7 p.m., TCM), director Robert Zemeckis and his longtime cinematographer Don Burgess dissect their work on "Forrest Gump" and "Flight," as well as oohing and aahing over classic scenes from "The Godfather" and "The French Connection."

Charlie's hustle

"Pete Rose: Hits & Mrs." (9 p.m., TLC) is the ex-baseball player's blatant attempt to both show off his Playboy-model girlfriend and take another swing at getting into the Baseball Hall of Fame. I'm willing to back his campaign, as long as he promises to give up the reality-TV business.
