The Regatta Wayzata Bay Residence 801 Lake St. E., Wayzata

Type: Condominiums/retail Condo units: 63

Retail space: 21,000 square feet Developer: Bohland Development

Details: The developer of the condominium portion of the ambitious Promenade of Wayzata Bay redevelopment project has unveiled some new details about his plans.

Steve Bohl of Bohland Development, builder of the luxury Regatta Wayzata Bay Residence condominiums, told the Wayzata City Council at an informational hearing last week that the exterior look of the 63-unit building is meant to set it apart from the other four new buildings coming in the Promenade effort, yet fit in with the whole. The building is designed by Cuningham Group architects.

The upscale units, to be built atop 21,000 square feet of first-floor retail space, are among the second-phase elements of the 14-acre Promenade project from Presbyterian Homes, which is going up along Lake Street where the Wayzata Bay Shopping Center once stood.

The overall project includes senior housing, rental apartments, 130,000 square feet of retail, a 100-room boutique hotel and 27,000 square feet of office space.

"We believe there needs to be some distinction (for the condos) from the senior housing in the village-within-a-village, but we also know it's very important to integrate it within the Promenade development," Bohl said.

After spending several months listening to community suggestions, Bohl's renderings showed a new roof line that has more "character" than in previous plans, with much larger decks for the first-level units that span over the colonnade of the retail level.

Bohl plans a midsummer groundbreaking on the Regatta, with occupancy set for late 2014 to early 2015.
