A Coco Christmas

Conan O'Brien leaves Triumph the Insult Comic Dog in the kennel while he hosts the family-friendly "Christmas in Washington" (7 p.m. Friday, TNT), featuring performances from Diana Ross, Megan Hilty, Demi Lovato and Scotty McCreery.

The return of Kunta Kinte

It's been 35 years since the launch of "Roots" (7 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, BET), which means an entire generation may be unfamiliar with the most important miniseries of all time. BET will air the entire production over three nights.

Boyd 'n the hood

Photographer Jonathan Malat and reporter Boyd Huppert, who seems to win an Emmy every time he opens his mouth, have assembled eight of their favorite feature pieces for "Land of 10,000 Stories" (9 p.m. Friday, KARE, Ch. 11), a splendid special spotlighting the very best that local TV news has to offer.

The hills are alive

You've probably seen "The Sound of Music" (6 p.m. Sunday, KSTP, Ch. 5) 15 times -- so one more viewing can't hurt, right? Julie Andrews and recent Oscar winner Christopher Plummer are beyond charming in this timeless classic.
