St. Paul asks drivers to move cars off streets for plowing

With weather expected to remain relatively mild through the weekend, St. Paul public works officials have asked drivers to voluntarily move their vehicles so residential streets can be cleared of snow and ice.
On Saturday, the city asked residents not to park on east-west residential streets until 8 a.m. Sunday. On Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., they're asked not to park on north-south streets.
"We're doing it because temperatures are warm ... and if people move their cars we will be able to measurably improve driving conditions by clearing driving as well as parking lanes," said Dave Hunt, public information officer for the city's Public Works Department.
While Saturday's rain shrank the snow cover in the Twin Cities, the Weather Service said temperatures would drop below freezing on Sunday and stay there for the remainder of the week. New snow could fall Wednesday and Thursday in the metro area.
