Election law: What's next

  • December 9, 2012 - 7:48 PM

The defeat of photo ID and the DFL takeover in the Legislature put a series of proposals up for discussion:

Early voting or expanded absentee voting

Electronic poll books for registering or identifying voters at polling place

Laws to prevent ex-felons from voting before they regain voting rights

Moving the primary from August to June

Clarifying how a candidate who dies or withdraws can be replaced on ballot

Limiting the number of state-paid recounts

Requiring additional disclosure by independent political groups

Making it harder to amend the Minnesota Constitution
