An open house will be held Tuesday on plans to ban some truck and trailer traffic from the Lafayette Bridge in St. Paul during construction of a new span.

The open house, hosted by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, will be from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Neighborhood House/Wellstone Center, 179 E. Robie St., St. Paul.

MnDOT plans to ban trucks and trailer combinations over 35 feet long on the bridge starting in late January or early February after a crossover is built from the existing span to the new northbound bridge.

The traffic ban will end when the crossover is removed in late November.

The existing Lafayette Bridge will be demolished in 2014, when work will begin on the southbound span. The $130 million project is expected to be finished in 2015.
