Rosemount has approved plans for its first hotel.

The City Council unanimously approved plans last week for a three-floor Country Inn & Suites with about 70 rooms and a swimming pool. The project also will have a SuperAmerica gas and convenience store, near County Road 42 and Business Parkway.

"We are really excited about it and think it will spur other commercial interests in that area," said Kim Lindquist, Rosemount's community development director.

She expects work to start in the spring. With a fully developed downtown, she said, "we've made the jump to the [east] side of Hwy. 3, where our housing has expanded."

The city began working on landing a hotel about two years ago. It had a hotel marketing study done and shopped around to developers, Lindquist said.

The council plans to address neighbors' traffic concerns by extending 149th Street east from Business Parkway to Biscayne Avenue to divert traffic.
