Celebs offer custom voicemails for a cause
- November 22, 2012 - 10:42 PM
Imagine having William Shatner supply your outgoing voicemail message. Or maybe you'd prefer Morgan Freeman coolly telling callers to wait for the beep. Or perhaps having Betty White joke around is more your speed. All it takes is $299 and some luck. The advocacy group Autism Speaks is offering custom-recorded messages from those celebrities as well as Will Ferrell, Carrie Fisher, Tom Hanks, Derek Jeter, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart and Ed Asner. From Dec. 3 to Dec. 9, a limited number of 20-second-long MP3 messages will be recorded by each celebrity on a first-come, first-served basis for fans to do with as they wish. All requests must be of the PG variety. Asner, the curmudgeonly Emmy Award winner of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "Lou Grant," dreamed up the unusual fundraiser with his son Matt, who works for Autism Speaks. "I think people will get a charge out of it," says Asner, who is on Broadway in the play "Grace." "I'll probably say, 'What are you wearing?' Or, 'Take it off.' Something like that." All proceeds will support autism research and advocacy efforts.Halle Berry's fiance and ex get into brawl
Halle Berry's ex-boyfriend was arrested and hospitalized after exchanging blows with the Oscar winning actress' fiancé, Olivier Martinez, on Thanksgiving morning, Los Angeles police department said. TMZ reported that the brawl occurred after Gabriel Aubry arrived at Berry's home to drop of 4-year-old Nahla. Martinez approached Aubry, telling him: "We have to move on," an apparent reference to a judge's ruling denying Berry's request to move Nahla to France. Aubry, 36, allegedly reacted by shoving Martinez, 46, and trying to punch him, prompting Martinez to punch Aubry in the face and pin him to the ground. Aubry suffered a broken rib and contusions to his face, while Martinez may have broken his hand and suffered neck injuries, TMZ said. Both were treated at a hospital. Once released from the hospital, Aubry "was booked for a private persons arrest for battery," said Andrew Smith, Commanding Officer, LAPD Media Relations and Community Affairs Group. Additionally, an emergency protective order was granted requiring Aubry to stay 100 yards away from Berry, Martinez and Nahla.
ONE OF A KIND: A 9-year-old Utah girl who has become something of a sport celebrity can claim a Wheaties cereal box. Samantha Gordon of Herriman, who goes by the nickname "Sweet Feet," ran for more than 2,000 yards and scored 35 touchdowns in her little-league football league. General Mills said her custom-made box is one of a kind.
SPLIT: Actress Mayim Bialik, 36, and her husband, Michael Stone, are divorcing after nine years of marriage. "The Big Bang Theory" star, who has sons Miles, 7, and Fred, 4, with Stone, cited "irreconcilable differences."
