SOUNDS LIKE HOME

Friday: They're all acts you can often see performing around town, but not together on one lineup, and not in as unique a venue or for as great a cause as this. A fundraiser and celebration to mark the 30th anniversary of Minneapolis-based family homeless shelter People Serving People, the Sounds Like Home concert boasts a cool cross-section of hardworking and well-intentioned local musicians, including the four pictured above with children from the center. Two bands straight out of the Twin Cities hip-hop buzz bin, Mally and Villa Rosa, were each standouts at this past summer's Soundset hip-hop festival. Soulful piano-rocking songstress Alison Scott has been packing the Dakota of late and will have her all-star band behind her. The Melismatics just led the Replacements tribute at First Ave and remain one of the liveliest rock bands in town. The show will also feature veteran rapper Toki Wright as emcee and spins by DJ Espada. (7 p.m. Fri. $35-$50. Grain Belt Bottling House, 79 13th Av. NE., Mpls. Tickets at www.PeopleServingPeople.org.)
