One of the players on the floor Tuesday night when Grinnell's Jack Taylor scored 138 points held the old school record and Division III single-game scoring record. Griffin Lentsch of Forest Lake scored 89 points on Nov. 19, 2011 in Grinnell's 145-97 victory over Principia College.

At the time, it was the highest single-game total for any NCAA men's player since 1954.

The Grinnell College website reported: "Lentsch finished 27-of-55 from the field, including 15-of-33 from 3-point land. The 15 treys rank ninth-best in all of NCAA. He was also an amazing 20-of-22 from the free-throw line, with the made number of free throws a Grinnell record."

Afterward, Lentsch said: "I was trying some threes, but some of them weren't dropping so I started driving to the basket. I figured if I could get some easier shots and also get to the free-throw line, that would help me reset and get my shooting touch and confidence back."

Lentsch led all NCAA players last season with 4.43 three-pointers per game, working in an offense that's designed to operate at a hyper-fast pace and score into triple-figures per game.

Tuesday night, Lentsch scored 14 in the 179-104 victory against Faith Baptist Bible College, while taking 105 fewer shots than Taylor.

Faith Baptist, you should probably know, is 0-8 this season and has lost all of its games by double-digits. Grinnell is 3-0.

In an email Wednesday morning, Lentsch said he had a good time being part of the show: "Yeah, it was a really fun and unbelievable night. Basically when I was on the court I was just in disbelief that something this incredible could be happening. Jack just didn't get tired and kept making shots. When I was on the bench I was just cheering him on and watching in awe"
