A Shoreview man was indicted by a grand jury in the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Naressa Turner, whose family said she was killed last month because she allegedly witnessed a murder.

Cornelius Bell, 24, was charged Nov. 14 in Ramsey County District Court with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder for the benefit of a gang, aiding an offender to avoid arrest and two counts of aiding an offender accomplice after the fact.

Turner was killed Oct. 14 while she sat in a car in the 900 block of Reaney Avenue. Her aunt, Tara Green, said Turner feared for her life after she received threats on social media because some people thought she witnessed a murder earlier in the year in St. Paul. Turner fled to Atlanta with her toddler-aged daughter and was killed soon after returning to St. Paul.

Police have not disclosed a motive for her death, and could not confirm Bell's role because of the ongoing investigation. Bell was indicted by a grand jury, and details of the case were not released in the charges.

"This shows that our investigators haven't forgotten about this case, and it is not dormant," said police spokesman Howie Padilla.

There are no other suspects in custody in connection with the case, he said.
