Twinkie junkies have spoken

A Jewel-Osco store in Chicago was out of Twinkies by Friday, but there was hope. It was supposed to receive another Hostess delivery on Saturday.

The downtown Target in Minneapolis also was sold out of Twinkies, and of Ding Dongs and Ho Hos, too, by Friday.

A 10-pack of Twinkies was available on eBay for $24.99 and four 10-packs were listed for $99.99 on the website. Other Hostess products including Zingers, Coffee Cakes and Cup Cakes also were for sale on eBay.

Supervalu Inc., the third-largest U.S. grocery store chain, said it's seeing a jump in sales.

"We are definitely seeing an increase in customers purchasing Hostess products and expect this will continue as news about the company spreads," said Mike Siemienas, a spokesman for Eden Prairie-based Supervalu. Hostess delivers directly to stores, so there's no inventory in Supervalu warehouses, he said.

"We will only have the products while supplies last," he said. All of the company's chains, which include Cub, Jewel-Osco and Albertsons, carry Hostess items, he said.
