WINE

Red blends seem to be getting more and more popular, and they're especially suited for this time of year -- both the weather and a certain holiday meal in the very near future. The Kadette Kanonkop ($18) is one of the best reds I've ever tasted from South Africa; it's mostly pinotage (44 percent) and cabernet sauvignon (41) with a bit of merlot and cabernet franc thrown in. Red fruit and herbal notes dominate the nose and wash over the palate, with great focus on the long and happy finish. Try it with, well, roasted fowl and rustic side dishes, no matter the day. Available at France 44, Lake Wine & Cheese, South Lyndale and Thomas.
