Preview: Gophers basketball vs. Tennessee State
- November 14, 2012 - 10:03 PM
Gophers at a glance: After two strong performances to start the season, the Gophers have plenty to be excited about. Beyond individual performances -- Austin Hollins and Rodney Williams are playing at a high level and Joe Coleman has been great offensively -- the Gophers are getting out on the fast break as often as they can and playing an effective pressing defense. Still, there are challenges to overcome -- ones that will be more glaring against better competition. Turnovers (19) were a problem Monday against Toledo, as was inconsistent shooting.
Tennessee State at a glance: The Tigers, from the Ohio Valley Conference, head into Minnesota for their third game in a three-game road trip before they head to Atlanta for the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. They are still searching for a win after losing to BYU and South Dakota. But it's going to be tough to find it Thursday against the Gophers, who have the significant talent advantage on their roster. Robert Covington has stepped back into his leadership role immediately, averaging 16 points and eight rebounds a game early on, and point guard Patrick Miller is averaging 9.5 assists for Tennessee State, which went 20-13 a season ago.
