"Frontier Earth" (7 p.m., Animal Planet), a new six-part series, kicks off with host Dave Salmoni and killer-whale expert Ingrid Visser looking at sharks and orcas living in the New Zealand waters. Future elusive subjects in the spotlight include killer ants, Komodo dragons, lemurs and people named "Salmoni."

Manning up

"Mankind: The Story of All of Us" (8 p.m., History), a 12-hour, six-part series, uses dramatic re-creations, talking heads and Josh Brolin's manly voice to show us how we have managed to survive, despite the presence on Earth of the Kardashians. The following installments will air over the next five Tuesdays.
