Arts briefs: Appalachian stories, songs at Spring Lake

The culture of the southeastern Appalachian Mountains will be the focus of a program of music and stories at the Schaar's Bluff Gathering Center at Spring Lake Park Reserve near Hastings from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
The area's cultural heritage and traditions arose from a unique blend of Scotch-Irish, English and African-American influence. To register, see www.startribune.com/a1875 and enter course No. 4327.
The park reserve is at 1800 E. 127th Street, Hastings.
The Farmington Knights of Columbus will host its annual turkey bingo from 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday at the Church of St. Michael, 22120 Denmark Av., with a sloppy Joe dinner at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $6 per person.
DAKOTA COUNTYLibraries closed
All Dakota County libraries will be closed on Monday because of Veterans Day, which is Sunday but is being observed Monday by government offices.
