The first round of results posted by Kids Voting USA suggested that Minnesota's rebellious youth favored Mitt Romney over President Obama 2,135 to 1,944. But that was only preliminary. Updated results show Obama winning 5,607 to 5,427. And that's without the final counting of thousands of paper ballots from Minneapolis and St. Paul schools.

The actual results have no real meaning, of course, and are affected by the randomness of the schools and communities that participate, such as Duluth, Edina and Brainerd.

The important thing is that thousands of kids cast realistic-looking ballots in realistic-looking voting booths Tuesday -- and might be more likely to cast real ballots in a few years when they are adults.
