One of the steadiest-gigging singer/songwriters in town, Alison Scott will be taking an extended break soon, and for good reason: She and her husband, Andy, are expecting their first baby in March. The piano-playing soul rocker has also turned her gig this Friday at the Dakota into something of a personal baby.
Scott will share the Dakota stage with Kansas-reared folk-rocker Freedy Johnston, best known for the 1994 radio hit “Bad Reputation.” Johnston has been using Scott’s band -- led by Kevin Bowe with fellow Minneapolis vets Peter Anderson and Steve Price -- as his own backing group on tour lately. Scott herself has joined some of their dates and says she and Johnston will probably pair up on a few songs (maybe something like the video below). Bowe will also play set of his own tunes, probably including the one RollingStone.com picked for its Daily Download.
Here’s all the info on the Dakota show. Scott is also performing a special alumni concert at her alma mater McNally Smith College of Music on Nov. 13, and then she and the band have their annual holiday show booked at Hopkins Center for the Arts on Dec. 18. Baby gifts are presumably welcome.
