Writing in New York magazine, critic Justin Davidson praised "The Tempest," which made its debut at the Metropolitan Opera on Oct. 23, as "a drama powered by a marvel of a score." The opera's composer, Thomas Ades, also conducts this Met Opera debut, which is directed by Robert Lepage. The cast includes Simon Keenlyside (Propsero), Audrey Luna (Ariel, "Ades's most magical creation") and Isabel Leonard (Miranda), The opera had its world premiere in 2004 in London. New York Times critic Anthony Tommasini called it "one of the most inspired, audacious and personal operas to have come along in years."

Lovers of opera can see a live simulcast from the Met of "The Tempest" in a dozen Minnesota movie theaters at 11:55 a.m. Central Time on Saturday, November 10. Participating theaters include ones in Duluth, Albert Lea, Minneapolis, Brooklyn Center, Roseville, St. Paul, Mankato, Eden Prairie and Elk River.
