Delmon Young won't be returning to the Detroit Tigers, according to a tweet from Tigers beat writer Chris Iott.

In a separate story, Iott said the former Twins outfielder, traded to Detroit for a bit more than zero in August 2011, is up for trying out the market: "I'd like to see how the process plays out," Young said after the Tigers were swept in the World Series. "It's my first year on the free agency market, so I'm just going to see how it goes."

With Victor Martinez returning from the knee injury that kept him out this season -- and almost certainly holding down the DH spot on a full-time basis -- there isn't room for Young on a roster that doesn't have a shortage of outfielders who are upgrades over Young in the field.

And for all the excitement over Young's play in the postseason -- he was the MVP of the American league Championship Series -- his 2012 regular season offensive numbers were no better than any he put during his time with the Twins

Anybody want him back?
