Photo contest deadline is FridayFriday is the deadline for entries in Anoka County's amateur photography contest. If you want to enter a photo for the cover of the county's 2013-14 "Recyclopedia" -- a publication that is a reference book to help residents recycle, reuse, reduce and dispose of materials safely -- here's your chance.

The contest is open to county residents only, and the photo must be taken in the county. Photos should be submitted electronically and have a minimum size of 5 inches by 5 inches at 300 dpi. The preferred format is jpg. Photos should be submitted to PhotoContest@co.anoka. mn.us and should include contact information -- name, address, phone and e-mail -- as well as specify when and where the photo was taken.

Photos won't be returned, and participants give the county permission to use the photos for educational or promotional purposes. For further information, call Anoka County Integrated Waste Management at 763-323-5730.

COON RAPIDS

Craft boutique set for Nov. 3The Moms Club will host its second annual Craft and Vendor Boutique from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 3 at Coon Rapids Evangelical Free Church, 2650 128th Av. NW. in Coon Rapids. The boutique will feature local vendors and artists, as well as home-based businesses. All proceeds go to the group's Anoka County Adopt-a-Family service project to support families in need over the holidays. Last year's event raised more than $1,500.

Lions Club hosts community breakfastThe Lions are hosting an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8 a.m.-noon Oct. 28 at the Coon Rapids VFW, 1919 Coon Rapids Blvd. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for seniors 62 and older and children younger than 12. Children under 5 are free.

Tickets are available at the door or for purchase from any club member. Proceeds will go to support Lions projects in the community.

GOLDEN VALLEY

Mythology of the skies will be discussedThe mythology of constellations and other stories of the night skies will be the subject when Bill Arden of Augsburg College appears at the Golden Valley Library at 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday. Part of the presentation will be outside if weather permits. Register to attend with the Golden Valley Seniors by Thursday at 763-512-2339.

Kids ages 8 and older are welcome. Refreshments will be served at 6:15 p.m.

ROBBINSDALE

Prostate cancer group will meet Oct. 24A prostate cancer support group will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at North Memorial Outpatient Center, 3435 W. Broadway, Robbinsdale.

Karen Palmer, registered licensed dietitian and certified diabetes educator, will discuss foods and nutrients that have been shown to promote overall prostate health and cancer recovery.

ROBBINSDALE SCHOOLS

'Beatlemania' concert will aid Cooper bandAn evening of "Beatlemania" is planned at Robbinsdale Cooper High School auditorium from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9.

The school's Marching Hawks and a variety of guests will present the concert to raise money for the band's uniform fund.

The event also will feature the Shady Oak Groove Society, the WCCO Blues Band and Joey Molland, formerly of the British band Badfinger. Don Shelby, retired WCCO TV anchor, will be the host. In addition to Beatles songs, the evening will include jazz, blues and marching band music.
