Michigan State, Gophers' weekend foe, opens with 6-1 exhibition win

Michigan State needed only 10 seconds to score its first goal on Monday.
Senior Kevin Walrod scored the goal and the Spartans rolled over Windsor 6-1 in an exhibition hockey game.
MSU will practice Tuesday and Wednesday and then leave Thursday for Minneapolis and a weekend series with the Gophers at Mariucci.
The Spartans were picked to finish sixth in the CCHA by the media and seventh by the coaches.
They were 19-16-4 last season, took fifth in the CCHA and made the NCAA tournament. MSU lost 10 lettermen. Second-year coach Tom Anastos has five seniors and 12 newcomers, 10 freshmen and two juniors who transferred.
The Spartans average 6-0, 195.
Also scoring in the first period for the Spartans were freshman Ryan Keller and sophomore Matt Berry. Both are forwards.
Michigan State took a 5-1 lead in the second period, getting goals from sophomore Brent Darnell and senior Anthony Hayes, two more forwards. Windsor scored a short-handed goal.
Freshman defenseman Travis Walsh got the sixth goal for MSU in the final period.
Last season the Spartans were second in the country in strength of schedule.
* Anastos' first weekly coach's show will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday on WJIM (1240-AM) at Reno's in East Lansing, Mich.
* The exhibition game drew 4,138 fans at Munn Ice Arena.
UNO BEATS LETHBRIDGE
Nebraska Omaha completed the WCHA's dominance over Lethbridge by beating the Canadian college in Alberta 4-1 on Monday.
Sophomore forward Dominic Zombo scored 58 seconds into the game for the Mavericks and junior forwards Ryan Walters and Zahn Raubenheimer made it 3-0 after the first period.
Sophomore foward Josh Archibald made it 4-0 after two periods. The Pronghorns scored a 5-on-3 power play goal in the third period.
Lethbridge lost 7-0 to the Gophers on Saturday and 7-1 to Minnesota State Mankato on Sunday. So the Pronghorns were outscored 18-2 and outshot 179-37 in these three games, including 49-11 in Omaha.
Next UNO will face Army in the Icebreaker on Friday in Kansas City, Mo.
