In Sunday's Star Tribune, Patrick Reusse wrote about Bethel's 15-14 victory over Concordia.
The short version: Bethel scored on the final play of the game after Concordia had recovered a fumble on the previous play -- and was penalized because a Concordia player ran onto the field while the ball was still live.
From a distance, it sounds like a cheap call.
But cue up the video at the 2 hour, 24 minute mark -- use the slider at the bottom of the video screen -- and you'll see a play in question. A player comes off the Concordia sideline and within a few steps of Tim Garry, the Cobbers player who had recovered the fumble and was running toward the end zone.
That's why the penalty was called and Bethel was able to run another "final play" with no time on the clock.
Was it the right call?
