Remodeled Best Buy in Apple Valley

The Best Buy store in Apple Valley recently completed its makeover, part of larger effort to reinvigorate sales growth by the Richfield-based consumer electronics chain.

The Apple Valley outlet on Cedar Avenue and 153rd Street is one of about 50 stores nationwide to undergo a renovation, said company spokeswoman Lisa Hawks. Other Twin Cities-area stores that either have or will be remodeled include outlets in Richfield, Maple Grove, Minnetonka and Roseville.

Hawks said the renovations differ slightly from store to store, depending partly on the size of the outlet. In general, all revamped outlets have increased their focus on portable devices like smartphones, tablet computers and MP3 players. The stores also emphasize high-end service, including a Solution Central department focused on services offered by Best Buy's Geek Squad technicians. The stores have separate repair departments and expanded areas for online shoppers to pick up purchases, she said.

Senior housing in Lilydale

Southview Senior Living Communities, a Mendota Heights-based senior housing developer and operator, plans to start construction this fall on a 47-unit independent senior apartment project in Lilydale.

The property, to be called the Villas of Lilydale, will be next to Lilydale Senior Living Community, another 120-unit senior housing building it is constructing. That development, which will have a mix of independent, assisted-living and memory care units, is expected to be completed in November, said Kelly Myers, vice president of operations.

Southview's other senior housing developments are in Maple Grove, Oak Park Heights, West St. Paul, Inver Grove Heights. A development in Shoreview is scheduled to be completed in December, Myers said.

State grant for Eagan

Eagan was one of four cities to be awarded grants totaling $1.29 million to clean up blighted sites for redevelopment projects. The grants from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development are expected to create nearly 1,000 jobs.

Eagan was awarded $750,000 for an elevator tower on a public parking garage to be built as part of its Cedar Grove redevelopment project. Earlier this year, the city sold a 29-acre parcel near Hwy. 13 and Cedar Avenue to Baltimore-based Paragon Outlets, which is building a high-end outlet mall on the site. Eagan also is using tax-increment financing to pay for the new ramp.

In addition to Eagan, Benson, Richfield and St. Paul received the state redevelopment grants.
