A chain-reaction crash on I-694 Wednesday morning injured several people and forced authorities to close a portion of the westbound lanes for about 90 minutes.

According to the State Patrol, the driver of a vehicle rear-ended the one in front of it, and pushed that vehicle into a third one.

Three ambulances were dispatched to the scene, which happened around 9:25 a.m. between Victoria and Dale streets, said Lt. Eric Roeske.

A 25-year-old man from St. Paul was taken to Regions Hospital and was in critial condition, the State Patrol said. His name was not released.

Three other people were also hurt and taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with non-life threatening injuries.

The 40-year-old driver of the vehicle which rear-ended the first vehicle was not injured. A 62-year-old man who was in the lead vehicle was not injured.

Motorists were diverted south onto 35E while the freeway was closed. The road was reopened just after 11 a.m.
