The Timberwolves on Monday reached agreement with free-agent power forward Lou Amundson on a one-year contract guaranteed for the veteran's minimum.

Remember those DWill-for-Anderson Varejao rumors earlier this summer?

Well, Amundson is the poor man's Varejao, a hustling scrapper who'll give you effort, interior defense and a lot of the little things.

And he isn't costing the Wolves anything but the minimum, to which Amundson agreed by choosing Minnesota over a handful of other teams also offering nothing more than that.

Offense?

Well, not so much...

Amundson, 29, is joining his sixth NBA team in seven seasons now. He played with Indiana last season.

His arrival means Anthony Tolliver isn't coming back to the Wolves.

Tolliver said by text Monday evening that Amundson's signing with the Wolves "absolutely" means he will sign elsewhere.

Tolliver probably will sign either either Atlanta or Phoenix for the minimum, even though he has been holding out, waiting for more than that.

It also makes Hassan Whiteside's signing less likely, although certainly not impossible.

The Wolves now have 14 players with guaranteed contracts, and guard Will Conroy is the 15th, with a partially guaranteed deal.

They still conceivably could sign one more player, probably a wing player, before training camp opens Tuesday in Mankato.
